How is JCI Different from Other Non-Profits?
JCI members take initiative to solve local challenges. More than a one-time donation or service opportunity, we focus on sustainable impact locally and globally. It only takes one active citizen to change the world. We are that active citizen today.
JCI and the Global Goals For Sustainable Development
In September 2015, more than 150 world leaders gathered at the United Nations to adopt the Sustainable Development Goals. During the 2015 JCI World Congress in Kanazawa, Japan, nearly 120 JCI National Organizations signed the Kanazawa Declaration, committing the organization to advancing the 17 Global Goals for Sustainable Development.
These 17 goals aim to end extreme poverty, fight inequality and injustice and combat climate change by 2030. Dedicated to advancing these 17 goals and building a world where everlasting peace is a reality, JCI members identify the goals most relevant to their communities, take action, engage stakeholders and implement projects that provide sustainable solutions to the greatest challenges of our time. With each local project advancing one or more of these goals, it is clear that these grassroots efforts to create positive change around the world are creating global impact and advancing these ambitious goals.
It will take the collaborative effort of active citizens from all sectors of society around the world to end extreme poverty, inequalities and climate change by 2030. By taking the responsibility to advance the Global Goals, JCI members are leading their communities to create the change they want to see in the world.
Partnering for Growth
JCI is proud to partner with other organizations who enhance and amplify the skills and abilities of JCI members on their leadership journey within our organization and beyond it. Some of our key partners are listed here.
As the world’s largest business organization, the ICC shares our mutual goal of ensuring peace and well-being through socially responsible business and entrepreneurship. The organization represents more than 45 million companies in over 100 countries and provides resources that enable JCI members to participate in community-building commerce locally, nationally and internationally.
AIESEC is an international nonprofit run “by young people, for young people.” The organization offers an avenue for individual development and cross-cultural understanding through opportunities like volunteering and interning abroad. Together with AIESEC, JCI recognizes and grows the innate talents of young leaders around the world.
JCI’s partnership with the UN began in 1954 when the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) granted JCI Special Consultative status. The UN takes action on some of humanity’s most pressing challenges. Our relationship with the UN grants JCI members a unique perspective on international cooperation and community development, giving them the opportunity to participate in global change initiatives.
For more than 100 years, JCI has empowered young people across the world to become better leaders. Our founders knew that wisdom does not just come with age – it is gained through knowledge and emotion. They knew young people had the passion and access to the information they needed to make a difference – they just needed the right resources.
You shouldn’t have to wait to change the world. At JCI, you will find opportunities you can not find elsewhere: valuable training, a framework to solve real problems in your community and a global network of more than 200,000 passionate young leaders like you who are there to support you every step of the way.
We stand out because we stand together. JCI brings together like-minded individuals ages 18-40 from across the world to overcome the toughest global challenges. When JCI members act as one and unite business leaders, government officials and civil society towards common goals, we can do anything. Together, we can build a better future and inspire the next generation of leaders.
JCI creates an unparalleled bond of international fellowship. Here, you will find people to help you build upon your skills and amplify your innate talents. You’ll receive support not only on a local level, but on a national and international level as well. JCI members are people who believe in our Mission, believe in our collective ability to create positive change and believe you can help us do it.
